The Government (of whichever hue) bangs on about ‘getting people back into work’ and includes folk with disabilities in this but if you are on 100% benefits and you are disabled you are allowed the princely sum of £2.86 per day before they will start debiting your benefits! I have the chance to tender for a web design job, a one off thing but it just is not worth it.
Oh yes I can charge for hardware and software but when that is over I
will be working for £20 a week, and I have worked out that the design
would be a case of 2 months work, not including waiting for feedback,
and then the soul destroying work of copy and pasting all the pages of
the existing site would take 4-6 months to get each page validated correctly
and I am not spending weeks doing a very laborious job of copying the
page contents into the new structure for a maximum of £520! I hate
C & P at the best
of times, but that’s not it.
I resent, wholeheartedly, the knowledge of the fact that the maximum worth of any task I take up is £20 a week. OK I move slower because of my muscles but I want to be credited for my knowledge and experience so that I can see if I am actually physically up to doing “gainful and meaningful employment”. I doubt it on a long-term basis, but short-term maybe.
